6 Care Tips for Cowgirl Boots Made from Exotic Skins

The skins of common domestic animals such as pigs or cows are used the most to make leather items, and they are most likely the cheapest to purchase. However, many women prefer to have cowgirl boots made with the skins of exotic animals such as reptiles or birds. Women’s exotic skin boots and booties are one of the most showstopping trends in footwear this year.

Exotic cowboy leather boots are considered to be more valuable. High-quality cowgirl boots are made with the skins of crocodiles, alligators, several types of lizards, ostrich, snakes, and stingray. Since cowboy boots made with exotic leathers are considered both more valuable and higher in quality, you certainly want to give them the best care.

Care of Ostrich Cowboy Boots Tips

Ostrich leather is both stylish and sturdy. Even though your cowgirl boots are made with sturdy ostrich leather, you should be sure to give them the proper care. That means you should avoid using any cleaner or conditioners that are oil-based. Even the oil from your skin may change the color of your boots over time.

You should use a soft brush to clean dirt off your cowboy boots made with ostrich leather. If you should get mud on your boots and it has dried, you should lightly wipe the mud off with a damp cloth. If a liquid is spilled onto your boots, you should absorb the moisture with a cotton cloth that is dry. If something oil-based should fall onto your boots accidentally, talc could be used to absorb the substance.

When your boots are clean, you should condition them with an exotic leather conditioner. After conditioning the boots’ leather, apply an exotic leather polish to the boots. After the leather of the boots is totally dry, use a soft, cotton cloth to buff the boots. Apply a water protector to the boots for a final step. The water protector should not have any silicone.

Tips to Care for Reptile, Exotic Leathers

Snake, alligator, and lizard skins are considered reptile leathers. To care for these exotic leather cowboy boots, follow these tips:

Tip #1:

Frequently apply boot cream, conditioner, or Vaseline to your boots. When you apply boot cream and conditioner, you can also apply Vaseline with them. These exotic leathers should be lubricated often due to their having an underlying membrane holding the leather’s scales together. This lubrication will prevent the loss of the scales and their cracking as well.

Tip #2

Always be sure to wipe against the scales of a snakeskin boot when removing dirt and dust. After removing the dirt and dust, you should then apply cream polish. When applying the cream polish, polish with the scales’ grain.

Tip #3

Use a polish that matches the color of the exotic boot when you use a conditioning cream on your boots. If you aren’t able to find a color that matches, use a neutral color. When polishing over special effects such as embroidery, you should also use neutral polish.

Tip #4

If you think that you will be walking in manure or mud, put a coat of Snow Seal or Mink Oil on your boots before you leave. If you really have a disaster by getting your boots completely immersed in gunk, you should rinse them with a little water. The boots should then dry at room temperature before you add a coat of conditioner.

Tip #5

A reptile skin cleaner followed by a conditioner should be used to remove mud from the crevices of your boots. Both the cleaner and conditioner should be in spray form. Spray each of your boot holding the spray nozzle about six inches from the boot. The foaming action of the cleaner and conditioner will extract the dirt and debris from the scales. If you spray for more than four minutes, a white residue may appear. However, don’t worry. Just wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Tip #6

It’s a good idea to always wipe off your boots as soon as you remove them. This will prevent the building up of dirt, pollen, or dust into the tiny crevices of your boots. Irreversible damage can be caused by dirt and moisture in the crevices of your boots. In order to keep your exotic leather boots in good condition, shape them with boot trees whenever you aren’t wearing them.
